The Pillar of Shame in Mexico, 1999

A memorial of the Acteal massacre

After an exhibition in Mexico City the sculpture was erected in Acteal in the highlands of Chiapas where paramilitary groups slaughtered 45 unarmed indigenous people in 1997. May the victims be remembered and honoured forever; and may the perpetrators be brought to justice and tried for their crimes against humanity.
