Galschiot back in Hong Kong

He travelled 8,700 kilometers from Denmark to Hong Kong in both 2008 and 2009. Just to be denied access and sent back home, by Hong Kong authorities under heavy influence of the Chinese government.

But this Thursday, artist and creator of the Tiananmen memorial ‘The Pillar of Shame’, Jens Galschiot finally got to enter Hong Kong.

Galschiot has been invited to Hong Kong by The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, to inspect and repair the sculpture ‘The Pillar of Shame’.

It was placed in Hong Kong by the artist in 1997 as a present to the students of Hong Kong, to commemorate the 1989 massacre on the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. A massacre on students, demonstrating against corruption and for freedom of speech and democratic reforms in China.
